Unequal Hours explores how non-human entities operate on alternate cycles of time that intersect with ours, and that these temporal relationships are fragile, interlinked, and consequential. Shown at CMAG on the Square, Canberra Museum and Gallery, Unequal Hours becomes a public clock that challenges our concept of singular time; as coloured ribbons connecting the clock hands continually circulate and tangle, creating a vivid representation of how alternate cycles of time are constantly intersecting. This compelling installation forms and then re-forms - asking us to consider the subjective nature of time, and how the natural world operates on alternate cycles that inevitably intertwine with human standardisation.
