Tim Rollins and K.O.S. / by Anna Madeleine

The artist group of Tim Rollins and K.O.S. (showing at Lehmann Maupin Gallery, Chelsea) works in a unique style to question notions of art by creating new engagements with literature, music and historical texts. The background of the way they work is really interesting: "Rollins and his students developed a way of working that combined art-making with reading literature and writing personal narratives: Rollins or a student would read aloud from classic literary texts by such authors as Shakespeare and Orwell while the rest of the class drew or wrote on the pages being read, connecting the stories to their own experiences."

This show was looking at visual motifs in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Great Gatsby, and The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny.
